Summary
The project aims to define functional dependencies between flow and watercourse velocity, accounting for the geometric characteristics of the analyzed watercourse sections under different terrain and weather conditions. The above will be used to predict weather and the intensity of floods, i.e., dry periods. The fact is that such research is being conducted, but not to the extent proposed by this project, and that it has not been conducted to this extent in Croatia. Extreme climate change, along with all of the above, is a motivation and an imperative for implementing the proposed project. For this purpose, data measured by hydrological and geodetic field research will be used. This will be followed by the development of models based on the obtained and processed measurement results, and plans to improve existing models for predicting floods and dry periods. Since watercourses in alluvial and karst areas differ hydrologically and hydraulically in their flow properties, measurements and modeling are planned in northwestern Croatia (on the Bednja River) and in Istria (on the Mirna River). Field research, i.e., the use of measuring equipment, does not hurt watercourses and the environment. In addition to field research, available hydrological data from the State Hydrometeorological Service (DHMZ) of the Republic of Croatia will be used, as will existing geodetic data, which are freely available for scientific research.
