Summary
The biggest disadvantage of TIG welding is its low productivity when compared to other welding processes. Despite this, TIG welding process produces exceptionally high-quality welded joints, whether done manually, robotically or automatically, on practically all applicable metals. A TIG welding gun with two electrodes will be designed, manufactured and tested within this project. The development of dual arc TIG torch will focuse on creating a single torch with two electrodes to increase welding efficiency by using a "coupling arc" and enabling faster welding speeds. When assembling the new version of the welding torch, all standard elements of a TIG welding gun will be used. The new version will also require several variants of nozzles within which two electrodes can be placed. The new version of the gun will be tested when welding general structural steel and stainless steel using a standard TIG welding device. The tests will be performed using two types of shielding gases: 100% argon and argon-helium mixtures in order to optimize the entire system for wide application. The mechanical properties, chemical composition and achieved microstructure in the resulting welded joints will be analyzed. Based on the research, scientific papers on this research will be prepared and presented. In addition to the aforementioned researchers, students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering will also participate in the project.
